Review: Richie Norton and `advocacy of Millennials`

Today was published amazing article by Richie Norton “The 14 most destructive Millennial myths debunked by data”. So optimistic article! So controversial.

I`m Millennial. I`m not completely agree.

Oh, no, of course we are not `the worst` or `lazy piece of crap`. We are not such bad 🙂 But the truth is that we are selfish with Facebook`s obsession.

Ok, but in the beginning – who we are? Well, Millennials are young girl and boy who were born in 1984-1993 years. We prefer intellectual and creative work with high salary (yuppies or Y gen).

You ask – who not? ))

You right! And of course Richie Norton is right too when he quoted The Economist: “They (Millennials) want roughly the same things (as their parents) regardless of when they were born: to be given interesting work to do, to be rewarded on the basis of their contributions and to be given the chance to work hard and get ahead”.

to be rewarded on the basis of their contributions

I also want to quote. Paul Harvey, a University of New Hampshire professor, finding that Gen Y has “unrealistic expectations and a strong resistance toward accepting negative feedback,” and “an inflated view of oneself.”  He says that “a great source of frustration for people with a strong sense of entitlement is unmet expectations. They often feel entitled to a level of respect and rewards that aren’t in line with their actual ability and effort levels, and so they might not get the level of respect and rewards they are expecting.”

All our problems (with boss and routine) root from it.

I think this is the best piece to completely understand what Millennials are))

But I want to concentrate on two point, in addition.

“7. Myth: Millennials aren’t equipped to handle the world’s challenges and need a corporate parent.

Fact: “While there are substantial challenges to meet, no generation has been better equipped to overcome them than Millennials. They are skilled with technology, determined, diverse, and more educated than any previous generation” (The White House 15 Economic Facts About Millennials).” (by Richie Norton`s article).

And what?!? Were skilled, tech-savvy ... and what?!? We know few languages but it couldnt help us to be happy and to be satisfied. Why? For answering we need next myth` ...

“8. Myth: Millennials are lazy.” (by Richie Norton`s article).

That`s true. We are not lazy, oh no.

We are not motivated!

We prefer to play in life and we`re afraid of responsibility. So, everyday we need motivation quotes, pictures etc.

Because without it life is very bored.

And the last one. My favorite, actually)))

“11. Myth: Millennials don’t believe in education and aren’t educated.

Fact: “Today’s young adults (Millennials ages 18 to 33 in 2014) are much better educated than the Silent generation. The educational trajectory of young women across the generations has been especially steep. Among Silent generation women, only 7% had completed at least a bachelor’s degree when they were ages 18 to 33. By comparison, Millennial women are nearly four times (27%) as likely as their Silent predecessors to have at least a bachelor’s degree” (Pew Research).” (by Richie Norton`s article).

Yeap! We love education! We so much believe in education that education is our life.

`Writing mania` or Why Y-gen love to be writers?

Soon it is becoming more advice for beginners writers than funny cats in the Internet.

I`m not kidding!

Advises, inspirations pics, youtubes lectures, special sites for future writers, tons blogposts and milliards “how to become a writer” or “how to write a book” in Google.

All my friends create blogs to post their own life stories. Some of my friends believe that the journalism is more creative and their own thoughts more important than facts. … Well, they prefer to leave an journalistic.

So, why we are fascinated by writing and publish our life in the Inet? Why we such addict?

I have no idea. I`m from their camp 🙂 But I can suppose that we are dreamed about the fame.

Yes, it is easy. No loneliness, no lack of attention in childhood. The psychologists suck.

We just want to be like MTV superstars – Selena Gomez, Justin Biber, you know.

Of course if you asked any Y, he said that I`m mad. But I`m not, I`m Millennial too. I know why we are obsessed with social media and writing – we want to be hearing, we want to be famous and we want to have an our own voice (that`s mean that we need an army of fans!).

Yes, on the one hand we are lonely in empty Internet space and we try to be a personality. But on the other, we see how to be cool MTV star. Thanks to pop slogan `You`re special` now we want to be special in the Internet. The Net creates an illusion of equality of opportunity for everyone. But this is fake.

But this is the only place where we can be …. . Can be popular. Likes, shares, followers – all of this (even if our followers strange persons and online shops) our own fame. Our personal MTV.

We believe that our life is unique, our thoughts are interesting and our stories is evaluate to be writing. Of course, why not? Why we are worse than Selena Gomez?!? We just a guys who watch TV and try to imitate foreign lives. Despite to the life in reality.

No way.

But it is difficult to accept.

Два слова о `gap year`

GAP YEAR.
